Welcome to the Middle School Counseling Page! I am Dana Stewart, and this is my 16th year at UMS-Wright Preparatory School.  My responsibilities on campus are varied, and listed below are just a few:

  • Conduct individual and small group counseling sessions to help students deal with personal and academic difficulties.
  • Mediate conflicts among students to help them develop positive, peaceful solutions.
  • Facilitate parent/teacher conferences.
  • Conduct classroom observations at the request of a teacher or parent.
  • Organize the Educational Research Bureau's Writing Assessment test in the fall and the Stanford Achievement Test in the spring of each school year.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions on issues such as self-esteem, peer pressure, test anxiety, etc.
  • Implement the Middle School Advisory Program.  Some Advisory topics are being proactive, setting goals, prioritizing, building and maintaining healthy relationships, being optimistic, learning to listen, working together, improving communication, embracing moral standards, adopting manners, showing respect, and thinking positively.
  • Schedule all middle school students.
  • Help middle school students decide which electives to take.
  • Help eighth grade students decide to choose the college prep or the honors track for upper school.

My main goal is to guide the middle school students through these difficult years so that they gain a positive sense of self.  I hope that the middle school students will be able to look back on the experiences that they have had and be able to make positive choices when necessary.

“Talk About It®” is the nation’s first and only anonymous online and text-based reporting service for schools.  With this service, students may send an anonymous email to their counselor or Academic Dean to discuss personal, academic or school-related issues. The student ID is the same ID used for Net Classroom, and the password is the student’s last name. Students will be able to change the password once they visit the Talk About It website.
